Main Street is Growing in Spokane: How a New Generation of Entrepreneurs is Strengthening the Local Economy

There’s a quiet confidence building across Spokane’s small business community. It shows up in the new storefronts downtown, the independent businesses filling neighborhood business districts, and the entrepreneurs choosing to launch companies in one of Washington’s fastest-growing regional economies.

Spokane has a true Main Street, several of them. Downtown Spokane, the Perry District, Kendall Yards, South Hill, Garland District, and other neighborhood corridors all serve as hubs for independent restaurants, retailers, coffee shops, professional services, and creative businesses. The city’s historic downtown core remains the center of commerce, while neighborhood business districts continue driving local identity and foot traffic.

Organizations like Greater Spokane Inc. play a major role in supporting that growth. As the region’s leading chamber and economic development organization, GSI helps entrepreneurs through advocacy, business support, workforce development, and efforts to strengthen Spokane’s economic competitiveness across industries.

Nationally, 57% of aspiring entrepreneurs say they plan to launch a business this year, even if economic conditions aren’t perfect. Spokane reflects that same entrepreneurial momentum. As Eastern Washington’s largest city and a major inland economic center, Spokane supports thousands of small businesses across health care, hospitality, manufacturing, professional services, retail, and technology.

This new generation of entrepreneurs is reshaping what business ownership looks like. They’re opening neighborhood restaurants, breweries, fitness concepts, service businesses, retail shops, and digital-first ventures that still depend on strong local relationships. Many are first-time owners willing to take calculated risks and invest directly in Spokane’s future.

At the same time, the reality of running a small business has changed. In 2026, success requires more than a great product or strong customer service. Business owners need to be AI-ready, cybersecurity-aware, and comfortable using technology to manage operations, connect with customers, and stay competitive.

That can feel overwhelming when owners are also balancing staffing, inventory, finances, and marketing. Technology should simplify that work, not create new barriers. When connectivity is unreliable or systems aren’t secure, growth becomes harder.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way.

With the right technology foundation in place, small business owners can spend less time worrying about infrastructure and more time focused on customers and community. Reliable internet, built-in security, and scalable solutions help businesses operate smoothly while staying ready for tomorrow.

At Comcast Business, we’re proud to support entrepreneurs across Spokane and the Inland Northwest. Our goal is to help businesses grow with confidence by providing technology solutions that scale alongside their ambition.

Main Street in Spokane isn’t making a comeback; it’s expanding. With the right support systems in place, this new generation of business owners can continue building stronger neighborhoods and a stronger regional economy for years to come.
