Regional Voices: Aleesha Brock – Greater Spokane Inc.
Aleesha Brock is an economic development intern at Greater Spokane Inc. She’s also the mother of three, and a full-time student at Spokane Community College studying to become an office manager and legal assistant.
Growing up in rural Newport, 47 miles northeast of Spokane: We spent most of our summers playing in the woods, swimming in lakes, fishing, camping, riding bikes, picking berries, boating, canoeing, roller-skating – the list is endless. During the winter, we went sledding and snowmobiling.
Career opportunities: When I graduate this summer, I will be qualified to work at law firms, the County Courthouse, City Hall, and business offices, from medical to IT.
Ways Spokane has changed: It’s grown a lot since I was young. There are more college programs and careers to choose from, and the new U.S. 395-North Spokane Corridor has reduced commute times.
What Aleesha likes about living here: What’s not to like? I love the outdoor activities, small shops, short commutes, friendly people, and career opportunities.
What she shows out-of-town visitors: I take friends to our lakes, hiking trails and camping spots. If they prefer an urban adventure, we check out the shows or wander through Riverfront Park.
How she relaxes: I love to garden, especially if that means digging in the dirt with my kids and their Tonka trucks. I also enjoy the occasional massage and pedicure. Reading books to my kids is a great way to end the day.
